What is the Orem Kohl's US Youth Soccer American Cup?

The Kohl's American Cup is a recreational tournament "for recreation players only" that gives soccer players an opportunity to experience a consistent, high quality tournament, in a fun family-like atmosphere. It fosters stimulation and excitement about soccer in an effort to increase the recreational players' interest in and love for the game. Kohl's and the US Youth Soccer association joined efforts to help recreational players feel special and have fun! They provide players with the opportunity to participate in an original event beyond their normal league play. Any player registered in a competitive level may not participate in Orem Kohls Cup.

What are the basic guidelines for the tournament?

  • Every recreational player has an equal opportunity to participate in every game.
  • The formation of recreational teams follows an open registration policy where every player is accepted and assigned to a roster regardless of ability. Players register for Orem Kohl's cup together as a team and all play equal time.
  • Player participation in a low-stress, fun-filled environment is promoted.
  • Four players per team on the field at a time. No goalie will play in the box.

What are "Fair Play" guidelines?

Cheer on teammates
Show respect for opponents
Play honestly
Listen to referees, coaches and event volunteers
Respect the rules and those who enforce them
Try your best
Enjoy the game - no matter the results!

What is unique about The Orem Kohl's American Cup?

Lots of fun is the name of the game here. Players will receive a Kohl's American Cup T-shirt, participation certificate and a small goodie bag. Kohl's also provides a family interactive area with soccer inflatables.

What is a 4v4 tournament?

No matter the age, teams will participate with 4 players on the field at once, playing against 4 players of the opposing team. No goalies in the box.

I have 14 players on my recreation team and they all want to play. How do I register?

Click on the "Apply to Tournament" tab at the top of the registration page. Register one team with some players and then create second team with remaining players. Each team must have a coach and team manager listed. Registration accepted with a minimum of 6 players and maximum of 8. Players from different teams can also be combined to create on or more teams as well.

Can each player pay separately?

Payment made online with credit cards may not be divided into individual payments.
Payment made with checks/money orders must be submitted together equaling $80.00 per team payable to Orem Youth Soccer. Team registration payment may be made at the snack shack - open during regular season soccer games and also during State Cup.

Who can play?

Orem Kohls Cup is open to all recreation players throughout Orem, North and South Utah County. Players register in teams, not individually. Participants must be current 2011/2012 registered recreation players or new 2012/2013 registered recreation players. Any player registered in a competitive level may not participate in Orem Kohls Cup. All players will be identified and compared to current and new registrations.

Please explain the age divisions.

Boys and girls will play in separate divisions through age 11. Ages 12-18 will play coed.
U6 = 4 and 5 year olds
U8 = 6 and 7 year olds
U10 = 8 and 9 year olds
U12 = 10 and 11 year olds
CU15 = Coed (boys and girls) ages 12, 13, and 14
CU18 = Coed (boys and girls) ages 15, 16, and 17

One year play ups are allowed after age 4. Younger coed players can play up, older players can not play down. Coed teams will want a minimum of 2 players per gender. If players ages 11 and younger want to play coed they will register as a boys team and will play against other coed and/or boys teams.  We found this is a great weekend for neighborhood friends to play together who normally don't during the regular season.

How can I avoid coaching conflicts if I am coaching several of my children's teams?

It is best to have assistant coaches for every team. Some coaching conflicts will be unavoidable.

Will the concession stand be open?

Yes, the snack shack will be open during the tournament.
